Today, we snorkeled at the Coral Gardens at Great Dog island. It was by far the best snorkeling of our entire trip! It truly was a garden of coral – it would have been amazing to see this 15 years ago before much of the coral died off in a coral bleaching event. But, even today there is so much to see here.
First thing in the morning we noticed a huge rainbow. The phone camera caught it …

Of course, we had a hearty breakfast before our snorkel adventure. Casey made beautiful lox and bagels with a side of eggs and a fruit platter.

The entire area had purple Sea Fans and other soft corals, like this…

One new thing we found here were a different kind of jellyfish – and this type had loooonnnng stingers trailing. None of the other locations had this type of jellyfish. We were careful to avoid the stingers!

The striped Sergeant Majors were everywhere, always adding color to the background.

This large coral formation was still intact, which was great. Usually, we saw them broken in the Virgin Islands.

Oh, this is so cool! We saw a school of these fish streaming by. We’ve seen them other places, but they are usually further away.

Other fish joined the parade! They will stop and swarm areas to eat, then continue along their way.

A small brain coral, along with some green coral growth.

I love these blue spotted Yellowtail Damselfish! These juveniles are always darting under cover. I still haven’t figured out what that yellow striped fish is.

A beautiful growth – just like a tree in the forest.

We continue to see this cool Dutch ship on our travels. We seem to have the same destinations in mind.

After our snorkel here, we moved on to Eustatia island.
