After our brunch, we walked around the lodge a bit and took more pictures of the view. This one is out the back of the lodge.

Back at our room, Jeff noticed this red-billed hornbill perched on a branch right outside our window. Tips told us they call them the “chili-pepper bird” because of the bill. Very appropriate!

Next thing you know, it was time to head out for the late afternoon game drive. Here, we are driving along a dry riverbed.

We saw a giraffe poking up above the trees.

Then, we crossed a river that still had water.

We found some lions lounging around in the shade. There were 3 young ones and one lioness. Here is a young male, just starting to grow his mane, with a young female.

The adult lioness was lying flat out in the grass, so it was difficult to get a good photo of her. The other youngster was around the back of the bush near the above two.

We hung out for a bit, then moved along. Off in the distance, Jeff saw this male warthog trotting along.

We were driving along a dry riverbed when we saw a lioness up ahead. She was just hanging out in the middle of the riverbed. The sun was starting to go down more by now, so the lighting was really nice. She was glowing.

She got up and moved a bit away, then flopped down and rolled over onto her back. Pretty funny and amazing she didn’t care about us at all.

She eventually got up and moved over to the brushy side of the riverbed. Then, we noticed another, smaller lioness over there. This one was looking very comfortable and relaxed, too. The funny thing was that her head was up against a pile of dung! She sure didn’t care. LOL!

I’m not sure if this was another Mashatu tree. It looks different to me, but I couldn’t identify it for sure. It was a beautiful tree, though.

The sun was starting to get lower, so we were meandering our way back to the lodge. There are many areas where the brushy trees don’t have leaves. Here, the track went right through them.

We drove up under a Mashatu tree where a herd of impala were grazing on the dropped fruit. The sky was blazing orange as the sun set. Jeff captured this with his iPhone – amazing it caught that super orange.

It’s funny that the impala always run away from us – except when they are eating the Mashatu tree fruit. Then, they just don’t care about us driving right up to them.

In the same area, there was a troop of baboons. Some ran around the impalas, others were hunting around in the grasses for food. Here, one was very relaxed being groomed by another.

Finally, it was time to head back to the lodge for dinner. Jeff took some nice evening photos around the lodge. The Euphorbia trees are nicely lit up at night.

So ends another great day at Euphorbia and Mashatu Game Reserve. Tomorrow, we are leaving!
