A Day At Eustatia Island

Home Travel British Virgin Islands 2026 A Day At Eustatia Island

We moved here last night from Monkey Point. On our way here, we went past Tortola and the EIS airport we flew into from Miami. Talk about a nice location on the water!

We had a delicious dinner after we arrived. It was a cod fish with leeks. We seemed to have missed getting a picture of dessert!

As usual, I was up before everyone else this morning. There was a pretty sunrise and one of the other boats still had their evening blue light on underneath. It made for a pretty picture.

Today, we’ll snorkel and hang out at this beautiful location. But first, Julia made us a fun breakfast! Since she’s French, I asked her to make us crepes. We had different options to put on the crepes, but we both went for the Nutella and fruit. Yum! 🙂

When we were here at Eustatia last year, there was a huge mat of sargassum seaweed covering virtually all of the reef; so we couldn’t see much on that visit. It’s just too dark under all that seaweed. This time, though, there was no sargassum. We found that this is a very nice snorkeling spot! Lots of coral (some alive, a lot dead) and lots of fish.

So, we stayed here for 2 nights. Why move the boat if you are already at a great location?

Rob took some great video with the drone showing this beautiful location. The water is such a pretty color! Our boat is the one on the right, with the dinghy behind it. The island you see out in the distance is owned by Richard Branson. Then, the island on the right side near the end of the video is owned by Google’s Larry Page. His island has a lot of construction happening. But, it was also happening last year – so not sure what’s going on over there.

You can see the large reef just past the boats and more reef extending to the right. It was easy to jump out of the boat and swim to the reef.

It was such a beautiful day! We relaxed in the morning, just sitting around reading. Then, of course, Julia made lunch. This time it was lamb with Mediterranean dishes. It was truly delicious!

We went snorkeling in the afternoon. We actually started out by having Rob dinghy us out to the right side of the reef. We swam a bit over there, then we were getting too far out from the boat, so we swam back to the closer reef. Soon after getting in the water, I saw this barracuda hanging out. They look scary, but they don’t bother people. We saw quite a number of them at our different stops during this trip. Usually, we saw them from the boat, sometimes while snorkeling.

Here’s a little Bluehead Wrasse next to some nice soft coral.

And, as always, the ubiquitous Blue Tang!

This Parrotfish looks like he is smiling at us. You can see the layers of coral behind him. It’s really pretty.

This looks like a juvenile Striped Parrotfish.

Wow, this is a colorful fish! I believe it’s a Redband Parrotfish (adult/terminal phase). It’s stunning.

This appears to be a Yellowtail Snapper. We don’t usually see these guys.

After we got back closer to the boat, we saw that Julia and Rob had decided to check out the area. They were a bit far away from us, so we just got a picture and went on our way over the reef.

This was a large section of Fire Coral. You have to be careful not to touch Fire Coral, as it gives you a nasty sting. Of course, you shouldn’t be touching any coral, but this is one that you really want to avoid bumping into.

This is a really pretty little spot of hard coral with a lot of soft coral growing out. It’s a garden!

We finally went back to the boat. It was nice relaxing in such a pretty location.

For dinner, Julia made a beautiful duck dish.

And, she made us raspberry tarts for dessert!

The end of another great day on Dream On! Rob and Julia have been taking such great care of us. Rob gets us to all the great snorkeling locations and Julia feeds us gourmet meals. They are a great team!
