Monkey Point

Home Travel British Virgin Islands 2026 Monkey Point

This afternoon, we stopped at Monkey Point on Guana Island. It was another beautiful day in paradise!

This is the bridge setup that Rob uses to get us everywhere. We need to get a picture with him in it!

The view above water is spectacular. Rob has a drone and takes some fantastic photos and videos of Dream On and the surrounding area. This is a great shot that shows our boat (closest) as well as the best area to snorkel – which is in front of the further boat, from the point on the right in towards that tiny beach area.

Rob brought us over in the dinghy to snorkel that area, and then we swam our way back to our boat.

But first, we had a lunch of Wagyu burgers, yum! Here we are looking happy about another great meal from Julia.

The area around Monkey Point was very nice for snorkeling. It’s mostly rocks, with some coral trying to grow. There were also a lot of small purple sea fans. And lots of fish. This was a good, but not great, snorkeling spot. Luckily, the water was very clear. The best snorkeling spot was out at the point in front of the boats. The path along the coast that we swam back along was mostly rocks with some fish, but not as many as at the point.

We’ve seen so many of these colorful little Bluehead Wrasse ove this trip.

I’m not sure exactly what this feathery tube creature is, but it looks neat moving in the water.

Here’s a fish we’ve never seen before – it’s a Graysby, a type of grouper…

And… another fish we’ve never seen before! We always see plenty of the Sergeant Majors, but not this Night Sergeant fish. The bright yellow and white Sergeant Majors are usually in groups of schools, but this guy is usually alone.

We see a lot of varieties of Parrotfish when snorkeling anywhere. This Yellowtail Parrotfish is always hard to get a picture of because it blends in so well with the background. This one isn’t bad though…

The yellow grunts like to hang out under overhangs that are rather dark. So, this picture isn’t the best, but you get the idea.

We see a LOT of these parrotfish around the BVI. This is what they call the “initial” phase of the Stoplight Parrotfish. They go through three phases – juvenile, initial, and terminal. Their final phase is when they have beautiful coloring.

This little fish is the Yellowtail Damselfish. It still has some of its glowing blue spots. The juveniles are black with lots of neon blue spots.

Now THIS is not what we want to see when snorkeling! Jeff got th is picture – I never even saw it. Good thing, or I would have wanted to get out of the water! It’s amazing this picture came out. It’s ususally impossible to get a picture of the clear jellyfish. But this one was lit up by the sun just right. All I can think is that we can’t see all the super thin stingers they trail behind them, so who knows if we’d get stung? Ack!

Now, back to our normal (safe!) fish… One of the ubiquitous Blue Tangs…

And frequently seen Ocean Surgeonfish…

We don’t typically see a lot of Angelfish in the Virgin Islands. Here, we saw a juvenile French Angelfish.

This coral was trying hard to grow and spread. We’ve seen a lot of it in different places here.

Finally, last but not least, we found a tiny little Trunkfish. They are interesting with their boxy shape.

That’s it for Monkey Point this trip. After we cleaned up back at the boat, we moved on to moor overnight at Eustatia Island.
