Lameshur Bay to Norman Island

Home Travel Virgin Islands 2025 Lameshur Bay to Norman Island

We anchored overnight at Lameshur Bay on St John Island. I got up early before everyone else was awake (as usual). The moon made a beautiful glow across the water, with that other sailboat in a perfect location for this picture. Great picture for using an iPhone!

We wanted to get a morning snorkel in before we moved on to the next location. This snorkel was a different spot in the Bay compared to yesterday’s snorkel.

First, we had to fuel up with breakfast! Today, we have an egg scramble with fire roasted tomatoes and Canadian bacon.

Casey also put together a beautiful fruit plate and raspberry tarts on the other slate. And, she makes us iced mocha coffee drinks with our breakfasts. Yum!

After breakfast, we snorkeled a different location of Lameshur Bay. This is another new fish we saw. Kind of looks like it’s glowing blue around the edges. Also some really colorful purple sponges,

This is a stunning piece of brain coral! The next pic has a Grey Angelfish with the ubiquitous Caribbean Blue Tang.

After our morning snorkel, we needed to move on to Tortola for a quick fix. This boat has air-conditioning for the bedrooms (which is really helpful in the humid heat). Unfortunately, one of the bedroom units wasn’t working. So Joran brought us to Tortola, and it was fixed. Ahhhh…. now we have nice, cool air in the bedroom. 😎

To get to Tortola, Joran used the sail for part of the trip. It was so beautiful and very interesting to see how easy it was to get the large sail up and then back down and away when finished. I wish I was able to get a picture of Koru from a distance with the sail up! Well, here is what I was able to get from the flybridge …

Here is our captain, Joran, putting the sail up. The sail added more stability to the rocking boat vs just using the engines. We appreciated that!

After Tortola, we sailed across to Norman Island. There are a few interesting snorkel spots here. One is “The Indians”, the other is “The Caves”. Since it was afternoon by the time we arrived, all the buoys were used at The Indians – so we moved on to The Caves.

Here are The Indians as we passed by. The best snorkeling is around the four chunks for rock you see pushing out of the ocean.

A view of one of The Caves as we arrived. You can see the small cave opening in this pic. There are a couple more cave openings, but you need to be looking at the land from the correct angle to see them.

We dropped anchor here at The Caves intending to snorkel, but WOW, there were a TON of people already there – with more arriving every minute. Both of these spots are popular, so cruises and day tours bring groups here. I’m amazed we got the above picture with no people in it since there were crowds there.

We didn’t want to snorkel in those crowds, so we decided to move about 5 minutes away to anchor in a cove – so we’ll return to The Indians in the early morning before the crowds appear.

Here we are arriving at Privateer Bay on Norman Island, where were anchored for the night.

In the distance of the above picture, you can see a megayacht. Wow! That yacht was huge and had all kinds of water toys! Below you can see they have a giant slide down to the water. And the white thing at the bottom of the slide is a floating lounge area. It has seating and a cover to protect from the sun.

Folks from that megayacht zipped around on a “hover board”. That’s like a skateboard, but it hovers over the water. It was cool to watch them hover over the water.

Lunch had a fabulous Greek theme of yogurt-marinated chicken over a Greek salad, served with roasted potatoes and pita bread. Another Yum!

Of course, we also had yet another fantastic dinner of salmon over purple rice. We are SO spoiled by Casey’s cooking!

For dessert, she made a coconut cake and served it with half a passion fruit. The passion fruit is VERY tart, so the idea was to contrast the sweetness of the cake with the tart of the fruit. Casey makes the most interesting combo of flavors for all of her meals.
