Although we arrived on the Koru today, Joran brought us somewhere to snorkel in the afternoon, near St John island. Joran just hooked us up to one of the available buoys and then he used the small dinghy to take us to a nearby area to snorkel. That spot was just a few minutes away, but it was more convenient to use the dinghy compared to swimming over to that area.
Here you can see other boats moored in the area. We saw the boats, but didn’t see other people in the water.

The colors of these two fish are great! It’s always hard to get good picture of tiny fish since they flit around in and out of the crevices. But, we got these!

This is a parrot fish. It’s actually colorful, but you can’t tell in this light. I just thought the pic with his mouth open was funny. 😎

As you can see, there isn’t much coral here. Hurricanes have destroyed most of the coral around the Virgin Islands.
OH! We saw squid here! We’ve never seen squid in all our snorkeling adventures. There were three of them – a small, a medium and a large. I looked it up, and these are Caribbean Reef Squid.

Here is a fish we frequently see when snorkeling. It’s a “smooth trunkfish”.

Love the spots on these fish…

I got a pic of Jeff as we started out snorkeling. As you can see, we wear pants and sleeves to snorkel. I also have a wetsuit vest I wear. Covering up is helpful to avoid sunburn and jellyfish stingers. It also helps us stay longer in the water before we get cold.

And, Jeff got a picture of me!

We’ve seen these yellow fish on many other snorkel trips.

Another common fish…

Alrighty, that’s it for our first day of snorkeling!
